2021 Capitol Connections – Jan. 25-29

Ormsby Cody2 PettigrewfBillig

Capitol Connections is AIA|WA’s annual lobby day in Olympia, where architects discuss issues important to the profession directly with their legislators. The event will be entirely virtual this year, with a kick-off webinar briefing, an opportunity to hear from key legislators on our issues, and online meetings with your legislators throughout the week. Be part of the political process from your home office or dining room!

Because of the online format, the 2021 edition of Capitol Connections will take place over a full week. For each participant, this means joining us for the kick-off session to familiarize you with our issues and up to three 15-minute Zoom meetings with your legislators throughout the week. Architects from your home legislative district will attend these meetings with you, with one person designated as the lead to help facilitate the meeting. We will provide all of the background materials and talking points you will need, and we always make sure that no one has to attend alone!

This is a great opportunity to get a glimpse into how your state legislature operates and an easy way to start building relationships with your legislators. It won’t ever get easier to participate than in 2021, so please consider joining your fellow architects from across the state in this important outreach effort.

Join us in “Olympia” for Capitol Connections week, Jan. 25-29!

SCHEDULE

  • Monday, Jan. 25, 9-9:30 am: Kick off webinar & issue briefing
  • Monday, Jan. 25, 10:30-11: A conversation with Rep. Davina Duerr (the only architect in the Legislature)
  • Monday – Friday, Jan. 25-29: Meetings with legislators
  • Thursday, Jan. 28, 4-5 pm: Capitol Connections Virtual Happy Hour (not required)

Registration is closed but some events can still be attended. Contact Kirsten.

Questions: contact Kirsten at 206-708-3199 or kirstens@aiaseattle.org.

Note: legislator meetings are often not finalized until 1-2 weeks prior to our event. We encourage you to register now so that we can request a meeting with your legislators early. If you need to cancel after the dates are finalized, that’s not a problem. It is much easier to cancel a meeting than it is to get a last minute meeting.
