The 2017 AIA Washington Council Advocacy Summit includes a day long advocacy training conference on October 26 open to all members of the AIA Northwest & Pacific Region (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, Hawaii, and Guam) and a 2 hour AIA Washington Council policy discussion on October 27 open only to members of AIA Washington Council

ADVOCACY TRAINING CONFERENCE – OPEN TO THE REGION
Members of the AIA Northwest & Pacific Region will receive training on how to advocate for issues of importance to the architectural profession.  Cindy Schwartz, AIA National’s Senior Director of Advocacy and the primary driver behind SpeakUp has assisted in setting the agenda and will be one of the featured speakers.

DATE:    OCTOBER 26, 2017
TIME:    Registration:  10:00-10:30 am
Program:  10:30 am -5:30 pm
LOCATION:    MAYFLOWER PARK HOTEL
405 Olive Way, Seattle
COST:    $35.00 (includes a light lunch)

The training included in the program will be as applicable to local and federal advocacy as it is to state advocacy issues.  For those of you who are aware of SpeakUp, this is a condensed version of the programs AIA National is using to train members on advocacy.  The Advocacy Summit program, while shorter, is intended to contain the essence of the SpeakUp advocacy training – while being much less expensive and at a location that, for most of the Region, is a shorter distance to travel.

The goals for this event are:

  • To train AIA members how to conduct a campaign in support of or in opposition to legislation or initiatives affecting our profession
  • To understand the importance of advocacy to our profession
  • To learn communication techniques that can help with advocacy (and with normal business relationships as well)
  • To learn how best to get to know and be supportive of your local or state legislators

AIA Washington Council will be applying for 4-6 CES credits for this event (sorry, no HSW).

Due to space constraints we can only accept 80 registrants.  Acceptance is on a first come/first served basis.  If you are interested in advocacy but don’t know how to get started this is an event you should attend.
