For 10 months, AIAWA members have worked with a coalition of interior designers on legislation that would consider a Registered Commercial Interior Designer (RCID) designation in Washington state, planned for the 2026 session.

Throughout this process, AIAWA has provided feedback with one guiding principle: protecting public health, safety, and welfare. As architects licensed under RCW 18.08, we understand this responsibility. Our priority is ensuring that if the RCID profession is regulated, their education, experience, and examination requirements meet the standard of care for public protection within their scope.

We know you have questions. In partnership with the interior designer coalition we’re planning two virtual townhall sessions to share the progress and hear from you. October 29th from 12:00-1:30, for General Membership, and November 5th from 12:00-1:30, Small Firm Focus. You can register for the session that fits your needs. We look forward to the discussion and your feedback. Virtual Link shared in the confirmation email upon registration.
