Technical Advisory Committee, Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction

TAC’s primary function is to enhance the level of expert advice provided to the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) on technical issues related to school facilities. TAC is comprised of members appointed by OSPI who represent various organizations and industries involved with the construction and preservation of schools. TAC is responsible for:

  • Promoting cost effective planning, design, and construction of public schools in order to achieve reduced maintenance and operation costs.
  • Providing expertise and advice on technical matters related to the construction, modification, and maintenance of school facilities throughout the state.
  • Facilitating communication between OSPI and professional organizations on technical issues.
  • Representing field conditions and school districts.
  • Recommending changes to enhance and improve service to school districts.
About Melissa

Melissa is a Principal at NAC Architecture in Spokane. She has dedicated her 23-year career to designing educational facilities that enhance learning. She has been involved in nearly 50 Pre-K through 12 school designs, and has presented throughout the U.S. on educational facility design at conferences such as SXSW-EDU, the Early Childhood Design Conference, the Washington State School Directors’ Association, and the American Institute of Architects Committee on Architecture for Education. Melissa is continually researching strategies to design educational environments that support the needs of all students. With more than a dozen of her projects having received design awards, Melissa was recently honored as one of the Inland Northwest’s “20 Under 40.”

Melissa holds a Bachelors of Environmental Design and a Masters of Architecture from Montana State University. She has been a licensed architect since 2002 and has focused her career on creating spaces that truly impact the communities in which they reside.
