Architects Advocate is a nonpartisan advocacy group of architecture and design firms committed to creating healthy and livable communities through their work and advocating for national action on climate change through public policy. Two elements lie at the heart of Architects Advocate’s work: its mission is to enact meaningful legislation and policy to mitigate climate change and its core initiative is to create a network of architects and designers who agree to speak out publicly and share how their knowledge and actions create livable communities.
Architects Advocate’s Catalytic Action Platform encourages architects to familiarize themselves with the government officials who represent them and to know where they stand on climate action. The group has organized an Open Letter in support of the bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives. To date, two members of Washington’s Congressional delegation have joined the Climate Solutions Caucus: Rep. Derek Kilmer (D-6) and Rep. Dave Reichert (R-8).
At the firm level, members are encouraged to support existing initiatives like the 2030 Commitment by the AIA which calls for all new buildings, developments and major renovations to be carbon-neutral by 2030.
